Prazosin SR 2.5
PRAZOSHINE XL is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs called alpha-blockers. PRAZOSHINE XL is primarily used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and certain symptoms of an enlarged prostate gland (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH).
The sustained-release formulation of PRAZOSHINE XL is designed to release the medication slowly over an extended period of time, providing a more prolonged effect compared to immediate-release formulations. This allows for once-daily dosing, which can be more convenient for patients.
PRAZOSHINE XL works by blocking alpha-adrenergic receptors, which are found in smooth muscle tissue in the walls of blood vessels. By blocking these receptors, PRAZOSHINE XL relaxes and widens the blood vessels, leading to a decrease in blood pressure. In the case of BPH, PRAZOSHINE XL helps relax the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, relieving symptoms such as difficulty urinating.
