Acebrophylline and doxofylline
S PHYLLIN DX are both medications used in the management of respiratory conditions, particularly those associated with airway obstruction. However, they have different mechanisms of action and applications.
Acebrophylline is a bronchodilator and mucoregulator. It combines the properties of theophylline (a bronchodilator) and ambroxol (a mucolytic agent). It works by relaxing the muscles in the airways, which helps to widen the air passages, making it easier to breathe. It also reduces the viscosity of mucus, making it easier to clear.
Acebrophylline is commonly used in the treatment of conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, and other respiratory disorders associated with excessive mucus production.
Doxofylline is also a bronchodilator but belongs to a different class of drugs compared to theophylline. It works by inhibiting phosphodiesterase (PDE) enzyme, leading to an increase in cyclic AMP levels. This results in relaxation of the smooth muscles in the airways and improved airflow.
Doxofylline is used for the management of chronic respiratory diseases, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
