Dapagliflozin (5mg), Vildagliptin SR (50mg)

DAPA VILDA

    • Dapagliflozin (5mg):

      • Dapagliflozin is a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor.
      • Mechanism of Action: It works by inhibiting the SGLT2 transporter in the kidneys, which reduces glucose reabsorption from the urine and increases urinary glucose excretion, thereby lowering blood sugar levels.
      • Indications: Dapagliflozin is used to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic medications.
      • Dosage: The typical starting dose of dapagliflozin is 5 mg once daily, taken orally. The dosage may be adjusted based on individual response and tolerability, up to a maximum dose of 10 mg once daily.
      • Side Effects: Common side effects of dapagliflozin may include urinary tract infections, genital yeast infections, increased urination, thirst, and dehydration. It may also increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used in combination with insulin or insulin secretagogues.
      • Precautions: Dapagliflozin should be used with caution in patients with impaired renal function, as it may increase the risk of kidney-related adverse effects.
    • Vildagliptin SR (50mg):

      • Vildagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor.
      • Mechanism of Action: It works by inhibiting the enzyme DPP-4, which increases the levels of incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). This leads to increased insulin secretion and decreased glucagon secretion, resulting in lower blood sugar levels.
      • Indications: Vildagliptin is used to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic medications.
      • Dosage: The typical dosage of vildagliptin SR (sustained-release) is 50 mg once daily, taken orally. The sustained-release formulation allows for once-daily dosing and may provide more consistent blood levels of the medication.
      • Side Effects: Common side effects of vildagliptin may include headache, upper respiratory tract infections, nasopharyngitis, and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, or constipation. It generally has a low risk of causing hypoglycemia.
