LEFLUNOMILE is a medication used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). LEFLUNOMILE belongs to a class of drugs known as disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs). LEFLUNOMILE works by suppressing the immune system, thereby reducing inflammation and slowing the progression of joint damage in RA.
LEFLUNOMILE inhibits the activity of an enzyme called dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH), which is involved in the synthesis of DNA and RNA. By blocking this enzyme, LEFLUNOMILE reduces the production of immune cells that contribute to the inflammation seen in RA.
LEFLUNOMILE is primarily prescribed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. LEFLUNOMILE may be used alone or in combination with other DMARDs, such as methotrexate. LEFLUNOMILE is also sometimes used off-label for other autoimmune conditions, such as psoriatic arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
LEFLUNOMILE is available in strengths of 10 and 20 mg.
