Rosuvastatin (40 mg)
ROUSTRIN is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as statins or HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. It is prescribed to lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks and strokes.
ROUSTRIN works by inhibiting an enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase, which plays a key role in the production of cholesterol in the liver. By reducing the production of cholesterol, ROUSTRIN helps to lower the levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), often referred to as "bad" cholesterol, in the blood. Additionally, ROUSTRIN modestly increase high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), the "good" cholesterol, and reduce triglyceride levels.
Lowering LDL-C is important because high levels of LDL-C can contribute to the formation of plaque in the arteries, which can lead to atherosclerosis (hardening and narrowing of the arteries) and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.
ROUSTRIN is available in strengths of 5, 10, 20 & 40 mg.
