Sevelamer (800 mg)
SAVELINER is a medication used to treat high levels of phosphate in the blood, a condition known as hyperphosphatemia. It works by binding with phosphate in the gastrointestinal tract, preventing it from being absorbed into the bloodstream.
SAVELINER is available in the form of a tablet or powder that is mixed with water and taken orally, usually three times a day with meals. It is often used in people with chronic kidney disease who are on dialysis, as they are at risk of developing hyperphosphatemia due to reduced kidney function.
Like all medications, SAVELINER can have side effects. The most common side effects include gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In rare cases, SAVELINER can cause bowel obstruction, especially in people with a history of bowel surgery or gastrointestinal motility disorders.
Therefore, it is important to use SAVELINER only as prescribed and to discuss any potential risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.
SAVELINER is available in strengths of 400 & 800 mg.
