Introduction

SULFASALAZ 500 is a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD) containing Sulfasalazine 500 mg, prescribed mainly for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) like ulcerative colitis. It works by suppressing the body’s immune response and reducing inflammation in joints and the gastrointestinal tract.

It is widely used in long-term treatment of autoimmune disorders due to its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and immune-modulating effects.

What is Sulfasalazine?

Sulfasalazine is a sulfonamide derivative combined with 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA), used to treat autoimmune and inflammatory disorders. Once ingested, it gets metabolized in the colon to release the active anti-inflammatory compound.
