TELMISTRUM is a medication primarily used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension), and it can also be beneficial for reducing the risk of cardiovascular events in individuals who are at high risk. It belongs to the class of drugs known as angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs). TELMISTRUM works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten and narrow. By inhibiting the effects of angiotensin II, TELMISTRUM allows blood vessels to relax and widen, which helps to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow.

Dosage and Administration
The starting dose of TELMISTRUM for treating high blood pressure in adults is typically 40 mg once a day, but a lower dose of 20 mg may be used for patients who may be at risk of low blood pressure (such as those on diuretics) or for those who are particularly sensitive to the medication. The dose may be adjusted based on the patient's response to the medication, with a maximum recommended dose of 80 mg daily.

Indications
Hypertension: TELMISTRUM is used to treat high blood pressure, which helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
Cardiovascular Risk Reduction: It is also used to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death in individuals 55 years of age and older who are at high risk of developing major cardiovascular events and who are unable to take ACE inhibitors.
Side Effects
Common side effects of TELMISTRUM include:

Dizziness or lightheadedness, which may occur as your body adjusts to the medication.
Fatigue
Nausea
Less common but more serious side effects can include:

High potassium levels in the blood (hyperkalemia)
Kidney problems
Severe allergic reactions
Patients should report any signs of high potassium (such as muscle weakness, slow/irregular heartbeat) or kidney problems (such as a change in the amount of urine) to their healthcare provider promptly.

Precautions
TELMISTRUM should be used with caution in patients with a history of angioedema related to previous use of ARBs or ACE inhibitors. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, due to the risk of harm to the developing fetus.
