Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ)
TELMISTRUM are two medications that are sometimes combined together in a single tablet to treat high blood pressure in adults.
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that works by blocking the action of a hormone called angiotensin II, which can cause the blood vessels to constrict and increase blood pressure. By blocking the action of angiotensin II, telmisartan helps to relax the blood vessels, which can lower blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic medication that works by increasing the amount of urine produced by the kidneys. This can help to reduce the amount of fluid in the blood vessels, which can lower blood pressure.
TELMISTRUM is more effective at lowering blood pressure than either medication alone. This combination may also be more convenient for some patients, as they only need to take one medication instead of two.
Like all medications, TELMISTRUM can cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them. Common side effects of telmisartan may include headache, dizziness, nausea, and fatigue.
