Dapagliflozin is a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It works by inhibiting the SGLT2 protein in the kidneys, which is responsible for reabsorbing glucose back into the bloodstream. By inhibiting SGLT2, dapagliflozin prevents the kidneys from reabsorbing glucose, leading to increased urinary glucose excretion. This helps lower blood sugar levels by removing excess glucose from the body through urine. Teneligliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. This class of medications works by inhibiting the enzyme DPP-4, which breaks down incretin hormones such as GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide 1). GLP-1 is responsible for stimulating insulin release from the pancreas in response to food intake and helps regulate blood sugar levels. By inhibiting DPP-4, teneligliptin increases the levels of GLP-1 and other incretin hormones, promoting better insulin secretion and reducing the amount of glucose produced by the liver. This leads to improved blood sugar control.
