Telmisartan (40mg) and amlodipine (5mg)
TELMISTRUM AM is a combination of two medications that are prescribed together for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). They belong to different classes of drugs and work through different mechanisms to help control blood pressure.
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that blocks the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that constricts blood vessels. By blocking the effects of angiotensin II, telmisartan helps relax and widen the blood vessels, resulting in a reduction in blood pressure.
Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker (CCB) that works by blocking calcium channels in the blood vessels and the heart muscle. This relaxes and widens the blood vessels, reducing peripheral resistance and lowering blood pressure.
TELMISTRUM AM is used when the blood pressure is not adequately controlled with a single medication. The combination of an ARB and a CCB can provide complementary blood pressure-lowering effects through their different mechanisms of action.
